The majority of those with an acute infection will not show symptoms, but if they do, symptoms can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fever<\/li><li>Fatigue<\/li><li>Loss of appetite<\/li><li>Nausea<\/li><li>Vomiting<\/li><li>Stomach pain<\/li><li>Dark urine<\/li><li>Clay-colored bowel movements<\/li><li>Joint and muscle pain<\/li><li>Yellow color of the skin or eyes (jaundice)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Symptoms that occur with a chronic infection are due to liver damage and these symptoms can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Easy bleeding and bruising<\/li><li>Itchy skin<\/li><li>Fluid build-up in the abdomen<\/li><li>Leg swelling<\/li><li>Weight loss<\/li><li>Confusion, drowsiness and slurred speech<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What tests are performed to diagnose hepatitis C?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Infection with hepatitis C is diagnosed through a simple blood test. The first part of the test checks for the presence of hepatitis C antibodies, to determine of the body has previously encountered the virus.
